Length 3 complexes of abelian sheaves and Picard 2-stacks

We define a tricategory T[−2,0] of length 3 complexes of abelian sheaves, whose hom-bigroupoids consist of weak morphisms of such complexes. We also define a 3-category 2Pic(S) of Picard 2-stacks, whose hom-2-groupoids consist of additive 2-functors. We prove that these categories are triequivalent as tricategories. As a consequence we obtain a generalization of Deligne's analogous result about Picard stacks in SGA4, Exposé XVIII (Deligne (1973) [11]).     

Vacuum-Induced Abelian and Non-Abelian Gauge Potentials in CavityQuantum Electrodynamics

Gauge potential plays an important role in exploring exotic phenomena in the single- and many-body quantum systems. In this paper, we propose a scheme to create both new Abelian and non-Abelian gauge potentials by adiabatically controlling the degenerate Dicke model in cavity quantum electrodynamics. It is shown that a non-Abelian gauge potential is achieved only for a single atom, whereas an Abelianizen diagonal gauge potential is realized for the atomic ensemble. More importantly, two interesting quantum phenomena such as the geometric phase and the magnetic monopole induced by our created gauge potentials are also predicted. The possible physical realization is presented in the macroscopic circuit quantum electrodynamics with the Cooper pair boxes, which act as the artificial two-level atoms controlled by the gate voltage and the external magnetic flux.     

Geometric Origin of Staggered Fermion: Direct Product K-Cycle

Staggered formalism of lattice fermion can be cast into a form of direct product K-cycle in noncommutative geometry. We prove the correspondence between this staggered K-cycle and a canonically defined K-cycle for finitely generated Abelian groups where a lattice appears as a special case.

Gribov ambiguity in gauge theories

Gribov ambiguity in gauge field theories is discussed and it is shown that such an ambiguity exists even for Abelian theories in covariant gauge at finite temperature. Both geometric and algebraic proofs are presented. In view of the importance of non-perturbative methods, some special gauges are given in which such ambiguities do not exist or are not relevant. The significance of these in the study of confinement in QCD is pointed out.     

G-spaces and Fixed Point Sets

For a compact connected group G, in a compact free G-space M every closed subset is the fixed point set of an autohomeomorphism if the weight of M is not bigger than that of G. In a compact group with nonsingleton components, every closed subset is the fixed point set of an autohomeomorphism if and only if the weight of the whole group is not bigger than that of the component of the identity.

Cayley graphs of the group ℤ4 and limits for minimal vertex-primitive graphs of HA-type

We point out a countable set of pairwise nonisomorphic Cayley graphs of the group ℤ⁴ that are limit for finite minimal vertex-primitive graphs admitting a vertex-primitive automorphism group containing a regular Abelian normal subgroup.
